Kindergarten

We are very excited to have your child join our class. This class has both pre-k and kindergarten age children. Our day is very structured and fun. Every week the children have a different theme they learn about. All of the weekís activities follow that theme.

Daily Activities

Together Time: This is a time where we sit together as a class and discuss our daily activities. We also study the calendar, read stories, sing songs, discuss the weekly theme, and share ideas.

Language: Language includes reading books, felt board stories, finger plays, chants, rhymes, American Sign Language, Spanish, and many more.

Fine Motor/Cognitive: During this time we practice writing names and the alphabet in Dí Nealian. We also practice sounding out consonants/vowels and apply that to reading. There is also time set aside for things like puzzles, manipulative toys, and learning games. Fine motor utilizes finger skills, while cognitive makes use of the ability to think, remember, learn, and using reading awareness skills.

Arts and Crafts: Every day we do an art or craft that relates to our weekly theme. Art is a chance for the children to express feelings and creativity. Crafts are projects that promote following the directions the teacher sets forth. There is an assortment of art media that the children use including paint, chalk, markers, crayons, glue, feathers, etc.

Dramatic Play: Imaginations run wild when itís time for this learning center. Often times there will be role-playing and pretending involved during dramatic play.

Large Motor: We go outside twice a day at least 30 minutes each time. During the winter months children must have a warm coat/jacket, hat, mittens, snow pants and boots. During the summer months children must have sunscreen and a water bottle. We do stay outdoors longer in the warmer season! For extreme weather, the class will be given an indoor recess activity in the room.

Music: During Music we often dance, sing songs, play instruments, and play fun musical games. Some of our favorites are Musical Chairs, Freeze Dance, and Marching Band.

Math/Science: At this time the children either do a math or science activity that follows the weekly theme. During math the children count, sort, measure, or do a math sheet. For science the children make things or learn about anything from animals to our own bodies.

Special Days

Show and Tell: Thursday the children are encouraged to bring something from home to share with the class.

Movie Time: Some afternoons the children may watch an education movie when the lights are off, during quiet time. All movies and programs are rated ìGî.

Non-School Days: During the school year when the children have a day or two off of school
