• Is the center licensed and regularly monitored by your state regulatory agency?
• Is the entrance secure with an electronic keypad?
• Is the building safe, clean, and well-maintained?
• Is the center private and locally owned?
• Are the directors educated, friendly and knowledgeable?
• Do the directors and staff inspire children?
• Is the staff turnover rate low?
• Do you feel welcomed while in the center?
• Are emergency procedures practiced routinely?
• Are there secure pick-up/drop-off procedures in place?
• Is there an open door policy for parents/guardians?
• Are the toilet facilities clean and easily accessible?
• Is there a certified cook on site?
• How many meals are served in a day?
• Are the meals in compliance with USDA and the Food and Nutrition Service?

Classroom Quality

• Are the classrooms open and inviting?
• Do the classrooms offer a structured learning environment?
• Is the curriculum age appropriate and repetitive when needed?
• Is the staff trained in early childhood education?
• Is the staff involved with the children, not just directing their activities?
• Are American Sign Language and/or Spanish included in the weekly lesson plans?
• Are positive methods used to guide behavior?
• Are the caregivers affectionate and responsive to the children?
• How often are toys and equipment cleaned and sanitized?
• Are caregivers trained in CPR, 1st Aid, Child Passenger Safety, SIDS, and Shaken Baby Syndrome?
